Crisis Core: In Japan, the non-mainline Final Fantasy spin-off game FFVII Reunion earned the greatest retail launch sales. On December 13, 2022, it went on sale and 156,530 copies were sold. It still falls short of the debut of Final Fantasy Explorers, which initially released in December 2014 and sold 163,844 copies.
Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is included in the retail launch figures chart for all Final Fantasy spin-off games, which is available here:
These figures only apply to Japan. This chart is not entirely accurate because it excludes digital sales. Even though Crisis Core’s PSP remake has the same name as the original, the games are really distinct. Over 470,000 copies of the original Crisis Core were sold at retail upon release in September 2007. This results in a difference of around 313,470.
Nevertheless, Square Enix has had a lot of success with this. Since the releases of Final Fantasy XV and FFVII: Remake, this has been one of the biggest launches for a Final Fantasy game. Interviews conducted before to the game’s launch provided evidence that it will adhere closely to the gameplay and plot of the original Crisis Core.
Available now on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion.
